The roofer answers his own phone
That sounds small until you have tried to reach a contractor after a storm. When you call All Done, you get Jonathan. He comes out, gets on the roof, photographs what is up there and shows you the pictures.
Then you get a written price. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. No line items appear after the fact, and nobody here is going to talk you into a replacement when a repair is the honest answer. We have talked people out of roofs they did not need, and those customers are the ones who send us their neighbors.

What we look at first
Every roof we look at gets the same four questions asked of it, in the same order. Most problems answer to one of them.
Granule loss is the tell
Shingles shed their granule surface as they age, and those granules are what shields the asphalt from ultraviolet light. Once bare mat is showing, the shingle is on a clock that runs fast in a Memphis summer. Check the bottom of your downspouts: a pile of granules that looks like coarse sand means the roof is further along than it looks from the ground.
Nail placement decides everything
A shingle nailed too high misses the nailing strip and only holds by the adhesive strip. It will lie flat for a year or two and then lift in the first real wind. This is the single most common installation defect we find on roofs that failed early, and it is invisible until the wind finds it.
Valleys and penetrations leak first
The field of a roof rarely leaks. Water gets in where the roof stops being a simple plane: valleys, chimneys, sidewalls, pipe boots and skylights. When somebody tells you they need to replace the whole roof because of one leak, ask them where the leak actually is.
Hail damage does not look like damage
Hail bruises the mat under the granule surface. From the ground, and often from the roof, it looks like an ordinary roof. What it has actually done is shorten the shingle's remaining life and open a path for water. Soft metals tell the truth: check vents, gutters and flashing for dents before you decide the roof is fine.
Wind creases shingles without removing them
A shingle that lifted and slapped back down is creased along the fold, and that crease is a failure line. Nothing blew into the yard, nothing looks wrong, and the roof has lost integrity across a whole slope. This is why a roof can be badly damaged and perfectly presentable.
The clock on a claim is real
Most policies require damage to be reported within a defined window after the event. Waiting to see if it leaks first is how valid claims get denied. Getting it documented does not commit you to filing, it just preserves the option.
Ask what they would do if it were their own house. It is a simple question and the answer is usually revealing.
Ask to see photographs of your own roof. Anybody who quotes a roof they did not walk is guessing, and you are the one who pays for the guess.
Ask what happens if they open the roof and find bad decking. The honest answer is a per-sheet price agreed in advance. The answer to worry about is a shrug.
Ask who is actually going to be on the roof. If the person selling you the job cannot tell you, they are selling your job to somebody else.

The four things that end most roofs here
Roofs in this metro rarely fail for exotic reasons. It is nearly always one of these four, and three of them are cheap to catch early.
Heat with nowhere to go
An attic that cannot breathe cooks the shingles from underneath. Intake at the soffit, exhaust at the ridge, and enough of both. This is the single most common thing we find wrong, and it is usually insulation quietly burying the soffit vents.
Flashing, not shingles
The open field of a roof almost never leaks. Water gets in where the roof stops being a simple plane: valleys, chimneys, sidewalls, pipe boots and skylights. Those joints are the first thing we look at.
Hail you cannot see
Hail bruises the mat under the granules. The roof looks ordinary from the ground and has quietly lost years of life. The soft metals tell the truth, so we check vents, gutters and flashing before we call a roof undamaged.
Water going the wrong way
A clogged or badly pitched gutter sends water down the fascia and into the soffit. A lot of what gets diagnosed as a roof leak started as a gutter problem.

What does it cost to have you look?
Nothing. We come out, get on the roof, photograph what is there and give you a real number in writing.
Do you work with insurance?
Constantly. Storm and hail damage is a big part of what we do here, and we will document the damage and meet your adjuster on the property.
How big a job will you take? How small?
Big or small, we do it all. One cracked pipe boot or a full tear-off with new decking, a church roof or a duplex. Nothing is too small to be worth doing right.
